GOOD NEWS: Alabama Shakes, whose Sound & Colors LP won the Grammy's Album of the Year, will play April 29 at the Cuban Club in Ybor City.
BAD NEWS/GOOD NEWS: Tropical Heatwave, an April 30 music festival organized by WMNF-FM 88.5, will leave the Cuban Club after 34 years. But Tropical Heatwave will remain in Ybor City by dispersing to several different clubs, including the New World Brewery, Ritz Ybor and the Crowbar.
WHY?: WMNF, which is largely operated by volunteers, told the Tampa Bay Times that it didn't want to deal with the logistics of setting up an entire festival in less than 24 hours after an alt-rock Alabama Shakes concert that's expecting some 3,000 people. For its part, the Cuban Club told the Times that it has hosted many events on back-to-back nights and didn't feel it should be an issue.
